Beginning

Jason Seymour

I think to understand how this all started, you have to start the summer of 1987. I had just graduated Franklin County High School. I had been accepted into BYU that fall and as a man of faith, the Lord had a significant presence in my life. I grew up in southwestern Virginia, and lived on a working farm. My family were converts to the church. I am sure through out this process that we will dive into more of every aspect of our lives, but you have to understand how this all came together. Though I was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I had few LDS friends. The area that I lived, there wasn't too many members of the church. My older sister attended BYU and that summer I would head west and my life would change more than I could ever imagine. Like I said previously, I had very few LDS friends in my high school and I had never been around LDS members so going to BYU was going to be a cultural change for sure. My father (who was more like a COLONEL) pretty much said, you are going to BYU or military. Like that is an easy decision. I remember filling out my enrollment form to BYU with a sterling 2.1 GPA from High School. Read that correctly...2..1. In a graduation class of nearly 800 from FCHS, I graduated about 400 out of my class. I did take a bunch of collegiate classes but to say I excelled would be a lie. I was accepted on a trial basis (summer school) but my dad was like, 'show up in the fall." So I stayed home that summer, worked at the local window factory and saved up money to go to BYU. The summer ticked away and the end of August 1987...we loaded up in my sisters Toyota Camry and headed west. Little did I know that the next seven years were going to be the BEST TIME of my life all because of the other four friends that I would meet. And many others! It was a perfect time of non-responsibility, freedom, school, college athletics, road trips, poverty, MUSIC, falling in love, roommates, raw chicken, cheating, BYU football, and mostly a perfect mix of sociality and good times. I can't wait to share it with you...
